4 km southwest of the village of Episkopi in the province of Limassol lies the hill of Kourion, on which the ancient city was developed. It was originally built in the 2nd century. BC, while in the 2nd c. A.D. expanded and took its current form. Around the end of the 2nd-early 3rd cent. some modifications have been made, such as the installation of a metal rail, in order to receive a popular sight of the era, the beasts of war. In the cave of the theater were the stands, which contained 3,500 spectators. The building of the scene, rising behind the scene where the performances were made, made the semicircular orchestra flush with the sea. Today only the foundations of the scene are preserved. A speciality of the theater that makes it stand out from all the rest of the ancient world is that the hollow has a view of the sea. The view from the Curium Theater is stunning. Today, besides a tourist attraction attracting thousands of tourists, the theater is also a center of civilization, since it hosts performances of ancient tragedies, theatrical performances, concerts and more.
